I’m a Liberal White Woman, Hear My Whisper!
I’m a liberal white woman. I strongly disagree with everything Trump is doing. I think he is hurting people and the country. I stand with immigrants, the LGBT+ community, with workers, the poor, the homeless, with Gaza …. and I’m going to DO something to help these human beings - right after I grab my soy chai latte.
When ICE started kidnapping immigrants off the street, I was appalled. This is a violation of the constitution, an abuse of power, and just plain wrong. He’s ripping families apart and it hurts me to see it. I would go to the protest on Saturday, but Emily has soccer practice, and we really can’t miss it.
When Trump started deploying the National Guard across the country, I was infuriated. First in LA against peaceful protesters, then in Washington D.C. where crime had been going down. Now he’s looking at other cities? I won’t stand for it. We must rise against it. But work is super crazy right now, and I’m on a deadline, so.
When Trump purged Federal Employees from the ranks, and hired hand-picked sycophants across federal agencies and courts, and pulled research funding, defunded public education, and continued to follow the playbook of autocrats before him… I became incensed. This is dangerous. We cannot allow this to happen. And also I can’t cancel my pilates class or I’ll get charged for it.
When Trump and the FCC started punishing those who publicly criticized him, I was abhorred. Attacking Free Speech is a clear threat to democracy. All Americans should speak out and fight against this. I even created a post for instagram about it! I didn’t actually share it because, well, my in-laws follow me and they’re a bit more conservative, and it would be a whole thing.
Okay, okay. I know what you’re thinking. That I’m a hypocrite who’s not even doing anything to help the cause. That I act like I’m morally superior but I won’t even put myself out there or take any real action. And you’re wrong. I’ll have you know that during my pedicure today, I hearted a Daily Show post and donated $10 to NPR. You’re welcome. Not to mention that my liberal friends and I talk about this stuff all the time! We shake our heads at each other, and we say it’s all so crazy, and scary, and sad, and bad. And if that’s not activism, then I don’t know what is!
